Berg Balance Score Test (BBS)
The Berg Balance Score test is the best-known balance measurement tool, originally designed to measure balance in older adults.
Standing On One Leg
Stand with one leg
Standing With Feet Together
Stand in front of the camera with feet together without holding.
Standing Unsupported One Foot In Front
Stand with one foot in front of the other.
Standing With Eyes Closed
Stand still in front of the camera with eyes closed for 10 seconds.
Standing Unsupported
Stand in front of the camera for 2 minutes without holding.
Sitting With Back Unsupported
Sit in front of the camera for 2 minutes with arms folded. Back should be unsupported but feet supported on the floor or on a stool.
Reaching Forward With Outstretched Arm
Lift arm to 90°. Stretch out your fingers and reach forward as far as you can.
Sitting to Standing
Start with sitting and then stand up without support.
Standing to Sitting
Start with standing and then sit down without support.
Transfers
Arrange chairs (one with and one without
armrests) for a pivot transfer. Ask subject to
transfer one way towards a seat with
armrests and one way toward a seat without
armrests.
Retrieving Object From Floor
Pick up the object which is placed in front of your feet from a standing position.
Turning To Look Behind
Turn to look directly behind you over toward left shoulder while standing. Repeat to the right.
Turn 360°
Turn completely around in a full circle. Pause. Then turn a full circle in the other direction.
Placing Alternate Foot On Step
Place each foot alternately on the stool while standing unsupported. Continue until each foot has touched the step/stool four times.
